Just over a week into 2018 and I can finally say that the haze of the festive period is finally lifting, the last tub of celebrations has been eaten and I can no longer justify having a mince pie for breakfast, booo!!
My not so planned break from blogging has meant that this year, one of my many goals is to focus on giving this baby some much needed TLC. I’ve kicked off the new year with renewed energy, a somewhat healthier outlook and a whole new vision on where I want to go on this journey – hopefully with you guys in tow!
With all that being said, I am starting off the new year by looking at my top 5 interior trends from 2017 that I’m damn sure will continue to flourish into 2018!
Return of Gold
‘Oh my God, Marie talking about gold I’m so surprised (insert eye roll)’…. Yes I know I’m obsessed but I promise I’m not the only one!
I am soo geeked that everything brass has made its way back into interiors. For a long time, anything gold was considered quite dated and gauche but 2017 it made its triumphant return! It has become a firm favourite amongst designers and fellow enthusiasts alike. You can’t scroll through pinterest without being bombarded by gold everything and I am all the way here for this trend to keep on shining in 208
Here is another golden oldie that has made an amazing comeback. Gone are the days of garish wall coverings because the wallpaper glo up is real. It is one of the easiest way to jazz up your space and due to the sheer selection available we are glad for its return. 2017 was for sure the year of wallpaper and I am sure we will continue to see it in 2018.
This one was a no brainer! Marble was shoved down our throats through every possible channel. Whilst it may have gone into overkill I still think it is here to stay. It can come in all different types of variations and there is a marble slab to suit every design aesthetic on the spectrum. I think we can go ahead and call Marble the MVP of 2017
In the middleism
For years minimalism was king. Scandi design was everywhere and IKEA was your one stop shop for all décor. However, 2017 was the year where people realised – Hey! We like stuff! Hence the term in the middle-ism (completely made up by the way lol). As much as we love clean lines and white walls I was most definitely noticing a shift in the way we are decorating our homes and I am all for injecting fun into your space! Whilst many of us aren’t complete maximalists we are definitely starting to embrace bolder colours and patterns.
This is one trend from our Danish friends that I hope will never die! For those of you who haven’t the foggiest on what I am on about, Hygge (pronounced Hue-guh) is the Scandinavian word for a mood of coziness and comfortable conviviality with feelings of wellness and contentment (taken from Wikipedia, obvs). If you ask me the world needs a lot more Hygge and in 2017 we were all over it. I mean the Danes really know how to live, there’s a reason why they are always on those ‘happiest people in the world’ lists.
Creating Hygge in your own space is as simple as lighting a few candles and wrapping up in a cozy blanket with a book. In todays ‘hustle hard’ society it’s good to take a break – Lord knows we need it sometimes, so go get your Hygge on all 2018 long you deserve it boo!
Well that’s my fave five of 2017 – here’s to 2018 and all the bomb interiors trends it will bring us!
